Airbag Intermittent Conditions
Step 1. Check for Technical Service Bulletins
If any active codes are present they must be resolved before diagnosing any stored codes, review the technical Service Bulletin related to the reported symptoms.
Are there any related Technical Service Bulletin ?
Yes, perform the appropriate Technical Service Bulletin procedure.
No, go to step 2.
With the scan tool, record and erase all DTC from the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) or SRS Airbag. Monitor for any active codes as you work through the following steps.
Review the code monitored and set conditions for any DTC that are stored and attempt to reproduce the conditions listed :
- Wiggle the wiring harness and connectors of the related airbag circuit, sensor, or component.
- If codes are related to the driver airbag circuits, rotate the steering wheel from stop to stop.
Turn the ignition off, wait five seconds, turn the ignition on, wait one minute and read active codes. If there are none present, read the stored codes.
Was the source of the customer complaint found or did any DTC appear and stay active ?
Yes, perform the appropriate diagnostic procedure.
No, go to step 3.
No, go to step 3.
Step 3. Attempt to reproduce the condition
In the event the customer complaint cannot be duplicated due to an intermittent condition in the restraints system, the following may aid in attempting to reproduce the condition.
Warning : Turn the ignition off, disconnect the 12 volt battery and wait two minutes before proceding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
Using the wiring diagram/scematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors related to the stored code or component in question.Lock for any chafed, pinched or partially broken, bent, pushed out, spread, corroded, or contaminatedterminals. Reconnect any disconnected components and harness connector, except the battery.
Warning : Turn the ignition on, then reconnect the 12 volt battery and wait two minutes before proceding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
Wait one minute, and read active codes, if there are none present, read the stored codes. If numerous trouble codes were set, use a schematic and inspect any common ground or supply circuits.

Was the source of the intermittent conditions located ?
Yes, perform the appropriate diagnostic procedure.
No, test complete, the condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Perform the Airbag system verification.
