P0072-Ambient Air temperature sensor circuit low - The PCM detects that the Ambient Air Temperature sensor input voltage is below 0.27 volts for 3.84 seconds. When monitored with the ignition on, battery voltage greater than 10.4 volts. Default action the MIL light will illuminate.
Possible cause P0072 code:
Possible cause P0072 code:
- AAT signal circuit shorted to ground.
- AAT signal circuit shorted to AAT sensor ground.
- Ambient Air Temperature (AAT) sensor.
- Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) or Body Control Module (BCM).
Diagnose code P0072-Ambient Air temperature sensor circuit low
Step 1. Check for an active DTC
Diagnose any CAN C Communication DTC before continuing. Turn the ignition on, with the scan tool, read DTC.
Is the DTC active or pending ?
Yes, go to step 2.
No, perform the PCM intermittent condition.
Step 2. Ambient Air Temperature sensor
Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the AAT harness connector.
Turn the ignition on, with the scan tool, read DTC. ''The P0073-Ambient Air Temperature sensor high '' should be active or pending with the AAT harness connector unplugged.
Does the scan tool display as discribed above ?
Yes, replace the Ambient Air Temperature sensor.
No, go to step 3.
Step 3. Check the AAT signal circuit for a short to ground
Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the TIPM/BCM harness connector.
Check for continuity between ground and the AAT signal circuit at the Ambient Air Temperature sensor harness connector.
Is there continuity between ground and the AAT signal circuit ?
Yes, repair the AAT signal circuit for a short to ground.
No, go to step 4.
Step 4. Check for the AAT signal circuit shorted to the AAT sensor ground circuit
Check for continuity between the AAT signal circuit and the AAT sensor ground circuit at the Ambient Air Temperature sensor harness connector.
Is there continuity between the AAT signal circuit and the AAT sensor ground circuit ?
Yes, repair the AAT signal circuit for a short to the AAT sensor ground circuit.
No, go to step 5.
Is the DTC active or pending ?
Yes, go to step 2.
No, perform the PCM intermittent condition.
