P0174 Fuel System Bank 2 Sensor 1 Lean - This diagnostic runs continuously when the following conditions are met, with the engine running, upstream closed loop fuel control, ambient/battery temperature above -6.7°C (20°F), battery voltage above 10.99 volts, attitude below 2590.8 m (8500 ft). Set conditions, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) multiplies the short term adaptive value and the long term adaptive value together. If the total corrective value is above a calibrated threshold for than 30 seconds, a fault is set. Default actions, MIL light will illuminate.
Possible causes P0174 code:
Step 1. Check for an active DTC
Step 5 . Check the Oxygen sensor operation
Step 6. O2 sensor 2/1 Heater operation
Step 7. Check the MAP sensor operation
Step 8. Engine Mechanical
Possible causes P0174 code:
- Restriced fuel supply line.
- Fuel Pump inlet strainer plugged.
- Fuel Pump Module
- O2 signal circuit.
- O2 return circuit.
- O2 sensor.
- MAP sensor.
- ECT sensor.
- Engine mechanical.
- Fuel filter/pressure regulator.
- Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
Diagnose P0174 Fuel System Bank 2 Sensor 1 Lean
Step 1. Check for an active DTC
Step 2. Check the fuel delivery system
Step 3. Check the Exhaust system for leaks
Step 3. Check the Exhaust system for leaks
Step 4. Check the engine coolant temperature sensor operation
Step 5 . Check the Oxygen sensor operation
Perform the CHECKING THE OXYGEN SENSOR OPERATION test procedure this site information (see Sitemaps or labels).
Were any problems found?
Yes, repair as necessary.
No. go to step 6.
Step 6. O2 sensor 2/1 Heater operation
Turn the ignition off.
Note : Wait a minimum of 10 minutes to allow the O2 sensor to cool down before continuing the test. Allow the O2 sensor voltage to stabilize at 5.0 volts.
Turn the ignition on. With the scan tool, actuate the O2 sensor 2/1 heater test. With the scan tool, monitor O2 sensor 2/1 heater voltage for at least two minute.
Does the voltage stay above 4.5 volts?
Yes, verify that there is good pin to terminal contact in the O2 sensor 2/1 and Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connectors. If no problems were found with the connectors, replace the O2 sensor 2/1.
No, go to step 7.
Step 7. Check the MAP sensor operation
Perform the CHECKING THE MAP SENSOR OPERATION test procedure this a site (See a Sitemaps or label).
Were any problems found?
Yes, repair as necessary.
No, go to step 8.
Step 8. Engine Mechanical
Turn the ignition off, check for any of the following conditions/mechanical problems :
- AIR INDUCTION SYSTEM - must be free from leaks.
- ENGINE VACUUM - must be at least 13 inches in neutral.
- ENGINE VALVE TIMING - must be within specifications.
- ENGINE COMPRESSION - must be within specifications.
- ENGINE EXHAUST SYSTEM - must be free of any restrictions or leaks.
- ENGINE PCV SYSTEM - must flow freely
- TORQUE CONVERTER STALL SPEED - must be within specifications.
- POWER BRAKE BOOSTER - no internal vacuum leaks.
- FUEL - must be free of contamination.
- FUEL INJECTOR - plugged or restricted injector, control wire not connected to incorrect injector.
Are there any engine mechanical problems?
Yes, repair as necessary.
No, go to step 9.
