P0580,P0592 Code - when monitored continuously with the ignition on. Set condition, fault signifies when the switch voltage is shorted low.
P0592 Speed Control Switch 2 Circuit Low
P0580,P0592 Code - when monitored continuously with the ignition on. Set condition, fault signifies when the switch voltage is shorted low.
Possible causes P0580,P0592 Code
- S/C Signal circuit shorted to the S/C switch ground circuit
- S/C Signal circuit shorted to ground
- Speed control switch (Right steering wheel switch)
- Clockspring
- Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
Diagnose P0580,P0592 Code
Step 1. Check for an active DTC
Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury. Do not place an intact non-deployed airbag on a hard surface, the airbag propels into the air if accidentially deployed. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury. Turn the ignition on, engine not running. With the scan tool read DTCs.
Does the scan tool display this DTC as active?
Yes, go to step 2.
No, perform the PCM intermittent condition.
Step 2. Right steering wheel switch
Turn the ignition off, remove the Driver air bag. Disconnect the right steering wheel switch harness connector, measure the voltage on the S/C signal circuit at the right steering wheel switch harness connector.
Is the voltage between 4.8 to 5.2 volts?
Yes, replace the right steering wheel.
No, go to step 3.
Step 3. Steering wheel jumper harness
Disconnect the SCM harness connector, measure the voltage on the S/C signal circuit at the SCM component side.
Is the voltage between 4.8 to 5.2 volts?
Yes, replace the steering wheel jumper harness.
No, go to step 4.
Step 4. Clockspring
Disconnect the SCCM harness connector, measure the voltage on the S/C signal circuit at the SCM harness connector.
Is the voltage between 4.8 to 5.2 volts?
Yes, replace the clockspring. Perform the PCM verification test.
No, go to step 5.
Step 5. Check for the S/C signal circuit shorted to the S/C switch ground circuit
Turn the ignition off, measure the resistance between the S/C signal circuit and the S/C switch ground circuit at the SCM harness connector.
Is the resistance above 10k Ohms?
Yes, go to step 6.
No, repair the short between the S/C signal circuit and the S/C switch ground circuit in the wiring harness.
Step 6. Check the S/C signal circuit for a short to ground
Measure the resistance between ground and the S/C signal circuit at the SCM harness connector.
Is the resistance above 10k Ohms?
Yes, go to step 7.
No, repair the S/C signal circuit for a short to ground.
Step 7. Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
