This diagnostic test for two DTC:
- P2115 Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor 1 Minimum Stop Performance
- P2116 Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor 2 Minimum Stop Performance
The accelerator pedal position sensor (APPS) is a linear potentiometer. It provides the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with a DC voltage signal proportional to the angel, or position of the accelerator pedal. The APPS signal is translated (along with other sensors) to place the throttle plate (within the throttle body) to a pre-determined position.
This diagnostic runs when the following conditions are met with the ignition on and during in-plant testing, the APPS is checked to make sure the minimum and maximum values can be reached. The PCM performs the diagnostic test for this DTC after the diagnostic test for P2166 or P2167 has passed. Set conditions the APPS has failed to archive the required minimum value during in-plant testing. Default actions the ETC light illuminate, this is a non MIL fault. The Throttle input and vahicle speed are limited.
Possible causes:
- ETC relearn
- Accelerator pedal position sensor
Turn the ignition on. This DTC is set when the APP sensor values are learned in-plant but do not reach the minimum or maximum voltage range. Diagnose any APP sensor out of range and 5-volt supply DTCs before continuing. With the scan tool erase DTCs. Start the engine, with the scan tool read DTCs and record on the repair order.
Is the DTC active or pending?
Yes, go to step 2.
No, perform the PCM intermittent condition.
Step 2. Accelerator pedal position sensor
With the scan tool perform the ETC RELEARN function. With the scan tool erase DTCs, start the engine. With the scan tool read DTCs.
Is the DTC active or pending?
Yes, replace the APP sensor.
No, test complete.

Step 1. Check for an active DTCTurn the ignition on.
