P2533 code - The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) detects and open or shorted condition in the ignition switch run/start circuit.
- Ignition off/run/start control circuit shorted to ground
- PCM ground circuit open
- Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
Turn the ignition on, with the scan tool erase PCM DTCs. Perform several engine runs cycles, turning the ignition off for at least 20 seconds between each engine run cycle. With the scan tool read the PCM DTCs.
Did this DTC set again?
Yes, go to step 2.
No, perform the PCM intermittent condition.
Step 2. Ignition switch output (run-start) circuits (PCM)
Turn the ignition on, using a 12 volt test light connected to ground, probe the fused ignition switch output circuit in the PCM harness connector. Turn the ignition to run. The test light should be illuminated and bright. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery.
Does the test light illuminate brightly?
Yes, go to step 3.
No, repair the open or short to ground in the ignition switch output circuit. inspect and replace fuses as necessary.
Step 3. Ground circuits (PCM)
Turn the ignition off, using a 12volt test light connected to battery voltage, probe all of the PCM ground circuits. The test light should be illuminated and bright. Compared the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery.
Does the test light illuminate brightly at all terminals?
Yes, go to step 4.
No, repair the ground circuits.
Step 4. Check related PCM and component connections
